While I was less than thrilled with my reading challenge attempts in 2011 and 2012, this year I’m writing for a different reason: I finished!
- 3/3 for the Reading Outside the Box challenge
- 12/12 for the Mount TBR challenge
- 1/1 for the Audio Book Challenge (plus several bonus “reads”!)
I didn’t really expect to complete all my challenges, especially this early in the year. My self-imposed book-buying ban has stretched into its second year, and I’m proud of myself for sourcing almost all the books from my existing collection or from my local library — only one book, Chapman’s Odyssey, was purchased, and that as a birthday gift from my Mother-in-law.
Although the goal-oriented side of my personality gets more than a little giddy crossing 12 books off my TBR list, I must admit that I’ve had the most fun with audio books. Daniel Tammet’s Born on a Blue Day was my official book for the challenge, but since then I’ve listened to a couple more, and am really enjoying them — they make my commute to work, which is fast becoming unbearable, go just a bit faster.
I’m tempted to take up one more challenge for the rest of the year, but I’m trying to sit back and enjoy my success — after all, I think I’ve earned it.

How’s your reading going? Just a few more months to finish — I know you can do it!
