Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly event hosted by Should Be Reading. The rules are simple:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page (as well as the book’s title and author)
- Be careful not to include spoilers
This week’s quote is from a fabulous gem of a book called The Pun Also Rises, a great look at the history of this often-maligned mode of humor:
Another derogatory term often applied to puns is ‘cheesy.’ But in the 1850s, calling something cheesy meant that it was in fashion, correct, showy, or fine. Does this then mean that all puns, one way or another, must really be Gouda?
Lord help me, this book is full of quotes like this — I keep reading them aloud to Best Friend, who laughs more to keep from crying at my “bad” taste in jokes. I love a book that gets me.
