Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly event hosted by Should Be Reading. The rules are simple:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page (as well as the book’s title and author)
- Be careful not to include spoilers
I’m currently slogging my way slowly through Daniel Defoe’s Moll Flanders.
But now I found the thing too far gone to conceal it much longer, and my husband himself gave me an opportunity to ease myself of the secret, much to my satisfaction.
I’ve read some reviews of Defoe’s novel, so I know it’s about a “fallen woman” who writes her memoirs as a kind of morality lesson. I’m finding some of the language challenging, which is odd for me. I think I’m just not giving myself time to focus; my goal for this week is to sit still and pay attention.
What are you reading this week?
That’s not easy reading material, for sure. I’ve stayed away from Defoe, as I couldn’t get through Mutiny on The Bounty. Sometimes I can delve into those classics like it’s nobody’s business, other times I have to reread a page ten times through because I keep getting distracted.
I’m still not any further into this one; it’s due back at the library this week and I’m considering DNF’ing.
Normally language isn’t an issue for me; I read Austen and Bronte like my ABCs, and even Dante was pretty easy for me; something about Defoe’s novel just isn’t drawing me in, though. Hoping to dive back in over the next few days before I throw in the towel.
