(Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Crazy for Books.)
This week’s question comes from Mina, who blogs at Mina Burrows:
“If you could physically put yourself into a book or series, which one would it be and why?”
Although I’m really tempted to answer, “The world of Pride and Prejudice,” in reality that would be a terrible idea: I’m too much of a feminist to be able to deal with life in 18th century England.
So after some more thinking, I’ve decided that I would really enjoy spending some time in the world of Thursday Next and the Thursday Next series (by Jasper Fforde).
An alternate universe in which books are real (and you can visit them and their characters), international travel is made possible by shooting yourself through the center of the earth, and there’s an entire police division dedicated to solving literary crimes. Also, puns and allusions are everywhere. Who wouldn’t want to live in that world?
Your turn: In which literary world would you spend time?
You read my mind! I’m about to start the new Thursday Next book and I would LOVE to jump into her series. Describing this book to customers at the bookstore was always a challenge as it never fits in any one category, but that’s why I love it!
I’ve been dying to read the newest Thursday Next book, but I haven’t been able to make it to the bookstore (the nearest one is 20 minutes away). Plus I know that when I get it I’ll do nothing but read it until I’m done, and I’ve got chores to do. π
It is a really hard series to describe, and I wish more of my friends were into the books. My love for them rivals my love for Jane Austen. I love the witty humor and the allusions to literature…and the puns! It’s delicious. Thanks for hopping by!
Good Answer! Pride and Prejudice is a definite maybe but Thursday Next is perfect.
I love period novels, and I hate admitting that I wouldn’t do well living in them. But Fforde’s series is modern enough and weird enough that I would fit in. And it would be a blast, too! Thanks for hopping by.
Hello thanks for stopping by Anglers Rest. I love the name of your blog – great and quite a challenge.
The world of Pride and Prejudice would be great, but there would be challenges in living in 18th Century England.
It’s a challenge that I suspect I’ll lose, but something tells me I won’t mind. π
There would be lots of challenges to living in the 18th century, and I don’t think I would handle them very well. I’m by no means a radical feminist, but I’m just enough of a bluestocking that I’d get in a lot of trouble. But being friends with Elizabeth and Jane would be fantastic.
It would and you would get to meet and swoon over Mr Darcy!
Just become your newest follower and thanks for the link to Listography. I have just joined up and having a play!
Mr. Darcy is also delicious. Although I’ve read the book and seen the mini-series so many times that I’m not sure whether I swoon over Mr. Darcy, or Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy!
I’m so glad you found some reviews that appealed to you. I hope I keep writing stuff that you like. I’m not sure where I first heard of Listography, but it’s awesome if you’re a fan of endless lists. I also like to see what kinds of lists other people make. It’s like sanctioned snooping. π
Just hopping by! Looks like a great blog! Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much, Mark. Happy hopping, and have a great weekend!
I would like to be Nancy Drew’s best friend. π
And then you could go on mystery solving adventures! π And wear cute 50s clothing!
Just dropping by for the blog hop. Pride & Prejudice does sound good, but yes, it would be a difficult time for a feminist!
My answer: I would love to be in Francine River’s Redeeming Love. I wouldn’t want to be the main character. Just a secondary character is gets to watch it all happen.

I think I know which series you’re talking about, Jolene. Didn’t they turn a bunch of them into Hallmark movies? I know I watched the first one.
Your mentioning that you’d prefer to be a side character in that world is interesting, and something I didn’t consider when answering this question myself. I never thought that I would like to be Thursday Next herself (like you, I’d want to be a side character who sees everything), but I wonder how the other people in the hop would answer that: in the world that they chose to be in, would they be a main character? Interesting…
