(WWW Wednesdays is a meme hosted by Should Be Reading.)
To play along just answer the following three questions:
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What are you currently reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Recently finished
I finally found some time to finish The Son of Neptune, second in Rick Riordan’s The Lost Heroes of Olympus series. I love both books, but I liked the characters in this one just a bit more.
Currently reading
Still working on Heart-Shaped Box, but haven’t really been in the mood for it.
Coming up next
Not sure, but probably something nice and light.
What are you reading this week?
I don’t know if I’ll read Riordan’s new series. I only read The Lightening Thief. I have a hard time with how simple the writing is.
The writing is simple at times, but a lot of the content isn’t simple at all (if that makes any sense). You really have to know a whole lot about mythology (Greek, Egyptian, and now Roman), as well as history. I enjoy puzzling through stuff, trying to figure out the puzzle of what’s next, who will be showing up, who will be on which side, etc.
If you’re at all into mysteries you might want to check Riordan’s series for adults, which starts with Big Red Tequila. They’re great stories, but I like them in particular because they’re set in San Antonio, Texas, a city with which I’m very familiar. It’s nice to read about a place and think, “Yep, been there.”
I’ve got about 80 pages to go in Alice Hoffman’s The Dovekeepers, which I’m loving. I’ll post a review probably next week.
Alice Hoffman…hm, that sounds really familiar, but I don’t know if it’s because she wrote The Dovekeepers and it’s new so everyone’s talking about it, or if I’ve read something by her before.
